At Full Spectrum Life we obtain all our salt products from the foothills of the Himalayan mountains of Pakistan. Our salt is mined from caves by local inhabitants in a safe, comfortable work environment. All labor for our product line is produced in accordance with the principles of 100% Fair Trade. By employing local laborers, we are able to provide a good income source for the salt miners.
By providing workers an honest means for supporting their families they no longer need to pursue other harmful occupations such as poppy production. Mining salt in no way harms the environment, or the miners, rather it is an asset to the local population and the health of the miners themselves. The salt is mined today the same way it has been mined for thousands of years, by hand, using simple hand operated tools.
It is interesting to note that some individuals with respiratory challenges take employment in the mines just for the benefits of health improvement that come to them for doing so. When the salt crystals are broken, a smell similar to that of lavender is released. This odor is the same as essential oils produced by lavender flowers which have the same healing effect.
