Blog » Wilderness can heal your Spirit!
Years ago, when I had my land on Little River Road I used to host a lot of Retreats, at least 12 a year or so. Anything from Yoga to sweatlodge to Emotional Processing.
"A wilderness, in contrast with those areas where man and his own works dominate the landscape, is hereby recognized as an area where the earth and community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain."
I missed the sweatlodge so much and felt really hopeful when I met David that we could build another lodge.
This last retreat was a test run to see how people would respond to the environment. David is too close to it so sometimes he can't see how magical the place really is. The idea was to get a bunch of my friends up there, go rafting, hiking and swimming in Clear Creek and cook outragious food for them. This retreat had to theme other than to enjoy oneself and unwind.
Out of the 18 people that I invited, only 9 showed but that was perfect. We had too much food but ohhhhh the most magnificent time. It is extraordinary how a land can change when the sun it out, the garden is bursting at the steams and moon is ready to call you in. It is intoxicatingly beautiful and 2 days can feel like 2 weeks vacation........
I arrived on Tuesday late at night after visiting our friend's Angelika, the German Teacher and Kevin in Happy Camp. We had a great dinner together and if I hadn't had David's American Bull Dog, Kali, with me, I would have probably stayed in town. I finally arrived at the property at 11am and unloaded the truck in the dark. I always watch my back in case there is a bear or cougar.
I had a turbulent day and was really tired. My fancy Mercedes stalled on me on the way up to Mt Ashland and I had it towed. David's gave me his truck that thing is a "Wild Ride".
I fell asleep after sitting on the deck and admiring the silhouette of the shaddows of the trees against the backdrop of The Marbel Mountains. David had just built the deck a few days earlier and I was so impressed how great it looked. I imagines all my friends sitting in morning on the deck sipping their coffee or tea.
It had been raining for weeks in Oregon and the forecast for Happy Camp was extremely promising. SUNSHINE coming our way......... To be continued.
